Acted for a group of companies involved in property development and accommodation with a portfolio of more than 500 properties in relation to a complex multi regime HMRC tax investigation.  We also acted for the company director, a high-net worth individual, featured in the Sunday Times Rich List, in respect of a personal tax investigation.    HMRC made multiple complex tax assessments totaling £8.5m, arising from numerous issues across all tax types including corporation tax, PAYE and VAT.  We lodged appeals against HMRC’s assessments and successfully reduced the tax liability by £5.2m.  Given the complexity of the case, HMRC attended a five-day meeting at our offices with 16 HMRC officers simultaneously to cover the various tax areas in dispute
